Surveys

A survey is a series of questions crafted to gather information regarding people's characteristics, behaviors, opinions, or preferences on any topics of interest. Surveys are often an important first step to creating a foundation of data, which can be used to inform design choices or further UX deliverables.

Process

Define the objectives

This crucial first step sis key in understanding why we're doing a survey in the first place. The purpose and objectives of the survey can dramatically affect the types of questions we decide to ask.

Choose your audience

What group is the survey meant to help us understand? This step is key to making sure that we recruit quality participants that will add value to our data pool.

Craft questions

Creating the survey questions is a collaborative and iterative process. We want to strike a balance between asking for enough detail to paint an accurate picture of our participant's experience, while still being mindful of survey length. We work closely with stakeholders on this step to make sure we're clear on the purpose of each question, and that we are touching on all relevant topics.

Recruit participants

Depending on the audience we're interested in, there are a number of ways we can approach recruitment. We often work with a third party group to recruit quality participants based on relevant criteria. Alternatively, we can recruit internally for smaller or less specific studies.

Send out survey and Analyze responses

We generally allow one to two weeks for surveys to be completed. Once all the surveys are in, we begin analyzing the data! Researchers comb through responses to pinpoint findings, trends, and key takeaways. These results are then incorporated into a final report.
